My name is Sindhu. I’m a journalist, food enthusiast and writer of children’s books both Middle Grade and Young Adult. I won the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) 2016 On-the-Verge Emerging Voices Award for my Young Adult book Instant Karma. It’s the story of two girls whose lives are inexorably linked through reincarnation and karma.
Within the pages of this blog, you will find plenty of fun, tasty recipes for fusion cuisine that are easy to prepare. My love affair with food began long ago, survived a brief bout of anorexia and is now a driving passion given that I have picky eaters in my family (Zephyr, my ten pound mutt, included) and three children with serious food allergies ranging from peanut and dairy to mammalian meat and their by-products!
When I first came to America twenty-five years ago, it took me an entire year before I could muster the courage to eat a burger. When I did, I remember thinking it could be made palatable with a dash garam masala and chili powder!
So, when I decided to try my hand at blogging, the obvious theme that came to my mind was cooking. The two things I am most passionate about is cooking and writing. I do a decent job of both. My writing career spans twenty-three years, mostly in journalism, and more recently writing Middle Grade and Young Adult fiction. My love affair with food spans more than forty years. Thankfully, I love food too much to abuse it.
Ever see veggies called Okra, Cayote Squash, Eggplant, Fava Beans and wonder how on earth does one cook them? Just steam ’em and drop a truck load of butter on ’em? As it happens, there are at least several hundred ways to cook these exotic veggies and enjoy every morsel of them. Check out my recipes and find out how.
At some point, I will include non-vegetarian recipes and a way to plan a meal (appetizer, main course, sides and desert if you are feeling adventurous).
